California’s Proposition 65 Warning for Electro Rent Corporation
These warnings are a result of a California State Law passed in 1986, “The California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986”, also commonly known as Proposition 65. Read on for more information on Proposition 65 Warnings.
California Proposition 65 warnings can also be found on the manufacturers’ website, products, and/or packaging, including those manufacturers whose products we carry and are governed by Proposition 65.
What is California’s Proposition 65?
Proposition 65, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a law that requires warnings be provided to California consumers when they might be exposed to chemicals identified by California as causing cancer or reproductive toxicity. The warnings are intended to help California consumers make informed decisions about their exposure to these chemicals from the products they use.
The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) administers the Proposition 65 program and publishes the listed chemicals, which includes approximately 900 chemicals.
What does Proposition 65 warning mean?
The law requires any company operating, manufacturing, or selling products in the state of California to provide a warning on their products and/or packaging to warn consumers if there is a chance they could be exposed to any one of the approximately 900 chemicals on their published list. This means that if one of the products we carry contains a listed chemical, even if the level of that chemical is so low that it poses no real health hazard or risk, we are required by law to list it on our packaging and on our website.
The warning does not mean that the products we carry will inevitably cause cancer or reproductive harm. Proposition 65 may be best defined as a “Right to Know” law and Proposition 65 warnings are not an indication that a product is violating safety standards or regulations.
Why do some products include this warning?
Our products are sold across the United States and internationally and it would be difficult or impossible to place warnings only on products shipped from, to, or sold in California. At this time, we have chosen to include this warning on all our products shipped within the United States to ensure compliance with Proposition 65 law, regardless of destination.
