Fundamentals of Performing and Analyzing Dielectric Frequency Response for Oil-Filled Transformers and Bushings powered by intellirent

Volunteer Mezzanine 6 - 7

Dielectric frequency response (DFR) is proven to be the most complete and comprehensive test to determine the water content in the solid insulation of oil-filled transformers and bushings. Excessive water, combined with heat and oxygen, are known factors in the premature failure of transformers, leading to insulation failure. Starting with a brief introduction and review of DFR theory, this presentation will provide step-by-step procedures on how to perform and analyze the DFR test, not only  for transformers, but oil-filled bushings as well. We will also discuss guidelines to minimize the effect of external factors on test performance as well as the measurement configurations. These DFR tests have been well documented and defined in both IEEE Std. C57.161 and C57.12.200 for moisture determination in oil-filled transformers and bushings.

Drew  & David will be presenting the following:

Test Procedures to Minimize Transformer Failure

Volunteer B

Following recent updated guidelines and recommendations from IEEE C57.152 IEEE Guide for Field Testing of Fluid-Filled Power Transformers, Regulators, and Reactors, this seminar will focus on test procedures specifically designated to detect, confirm, and prevent transformer failure. It will feature a combination of the hand's on testing process for tests, such as power factor, excitation, moisture assessment, turns ratio, winding resistance, leakage reactance, and sweep frequency response analysis, with multiple case studies. The seminar will also include discussion surrounding the application of each test, when to perform them, and what to look for with results. We will also cover new approaches to testing transformer bushings and on-load tap changers.
